Bosch 52318 18 Volt JigSaw with 1 Battery Review

Bosch 52318 18 Volt JigSaw with 1 Battery
GREAT Saw, can be used in lieu of a circular saw and can cut through anything ! But the blades take practice changing !

The secret is the blades and Bosch now makes the blades available for different manufacturer jig and saber saws.

Let me say there has never been any piece of wood or board this thing hasn’t been able to rip through, I’ve even cut down mid size tree and the stump with the rough wood blade.

The variable speed trigger is smooth so you can use this saw for fine craft work too.

Just like every other reviewer, I have to reiterate the blades are tedious to change, it is a tool less system that has to be finessed. TIP: When it arrives and you’ve made a few cuts, practice removing and replacing the blades until you have the routine down. This is important because the blade will warble if it isn’t tight, this happened to us but no one was injured.

If you already have a nice jigsaw and want the same cutting power, see if Bosch is offering their blades for your model, the bi-opposition teeth design is the real secret.

Bosch 52318 18 Volt JigSaw with 1 Battery Overview

Woodworkers who like the smooth, accurate performance of Bosch’s jig saws will appreciate this new cordless model. It offers plenty of power for making curved cuts in a variety of materials, and doesn’t skimp on usability features. At its heart is a powerful and smooth-running Bosch-built motor and a durable and lightweight magnesium gear housing. The saw has variable speed from 0 to 2,000 strokes per minute with a 1-inch stroke length, and a maximum capacity of 2-3/4 inches in wood and 5/16 inch in steel. The base bevels 45 degrees and comes with a foot cover to protect finished surfaces. The tool-free blade-changing system is as simple and quick as we’ve seen, and even ejects used blades with the pull of a lever. There’s a soft rubber top-handle grip that can be used in a couple different positions, and the variable-speed trigger has an ambidextrous lock-on switch. With this tool’s smooth performance and Bosch-built reliability, we think any one who finds curve cutting and cords a cumbersome combination will appreciate it. This 18-volt model comes with one 2.4 amp hr battery, a one-hour charger, a blade set, and a no-mar overshoe. People looking for more power might consider Bosch’s 24-volt model. –Brian Trinen

I’ve owned mine for several years now and still like it – GPDMTR25 – Sunny California
Often people use a tool once or twice and put up a glowing review without really testing the product. I’ve had this tool for about 2 ½ years now and still love it. I’m a woodworker and have used it a lot. Basically,

It’s Powerful
I Love not having a cord
Battery charge last a long time.
Easy to change blades

I recently didn’t want to cut some junkie plywood with my nice woodworker II so I used a straight edge and my jigsaw. No problems. I forgot what I paid for it and was surprised to see how expensive it is. Like most quality products it initially hurts to put the money out but you quickly forget about the price and still have a quality tool.

Disappointing failure – T. Edwards –
I have purchased two of these an both of them have failed. The first was part of a Bosch set. I used it infrequently but it still died (after the warranty had lapsed.) I then bought a replacement “reconditioned” one and it, too, failed. I don’t know what the problem is, both simply stopped functioning. Nothing happens when you press the trigger. It’s not the batteries since the batteries work fine in my other Bosch tools.

Other than this product, I am a fan of Bosch’s cordless tools that I have (circular saws, sawzall, drills, impact driver). I just bought another set because my first set had gotten banged up after years of use.

Great saw, works as well as corded model. I keep this one in my truck. Just don’t drop it.
