Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home) White Review

I looked at several brands before deciding on Lenovo Netbook. I am very happy with my decision. While the keyboard is slightly smaller than other 10 "netbook, it certainly is with little adaptation (I am a touch typer) applications. The only annoying curiosity is the right shift key, as others have said. Apart from this, the feeling of the keyboard is much better than others, in my opinion. In addition to a new model is already available (S10-2) with a better keyboard layout.
ThePlace at the Lenovo shines on the other, in my opinion, is in its fit and finish. Others seem to lack the attention to detail that has this model. For example, the keyboard was on the HPS (me several times) is left huddled on the side and the shiny plastic pyramids on the screen. Annoying. And a lot of time, the Asus keyboard registered the wrong (or not) keystrokes. MSI Wind to tilt backward. But Lenovo is built pretty solid and seems tastefully subduedgood deal like a car should. Quite nice if this is your thing.
I found that the processor and hard drive are fast enough for me, even with "only" 1 GB of RAM installed. But I'm not a player and do not bother to watch videos on it, so I do not really the limit. The screen is very nice and full 1024×600.
The model I got the boot splash OS including top speed. This will enable a device-like OS that has a browser (a renamed and robbedFirefox 2 below), a media player and some other tools. It 's nice, but disables features such as plug-ins for the browser or the ability to download files, so there are limits to what you can do with it. Great if you want to quickly check weather and news and even the signs on the way to the door.
If you are interested, here is how to partition: 115 GB formatted FAT32 primary partition containing the Windows XP operating system. I am pretty sure FAT32 is selected instead of the more recentNTFS, because it allows access Splash Top media file that you received, stored, and Windows. A second 30 GB partition is formatted as NTFS D: drive in Windows, and is a hidden partition of 3 ° (in Windows) is used to restore disk images for a key to save the system.
I wanted to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but the manual does not recommend using 115 or 15 GB partitions mess because it is not the key One Restore to work. So I decided to use part of the 30 GBTo install the Ubuntu partition. This seems to work pretty well actually, because Ubuntu has no problem with easy access to key FAT32 partition natively. So you can store all your music, movies, photos and files in this work, partition and use Windows or Ubuntu. Provides a setup quite well.
The Ubuntu installation was painless. Just follow the instructions on the Ubuntu site and it does practically everything for you. Networking, sleep and hibernation, screenworked brightness and volume and other functions without any retouching. Only the internal microphone does not need to get some help for the job, but the instructions are available at the time to search the Web The UNR is nice to think that really makes good use of limited screen on these smaller computers. Even boots faster than Windows, and seems generally faster.
I would recommend this model definitely something for everyone in the market for a netbook.

Roadwarrior’s ultimate Toy – Larry B –
I had a laptop HP zd8000 that I suffered for three years. It 'was everything that is not Lenovo. The HP was big, heavy, noisy, feels warm, her eyes heavy and unreliable. After HP has developed the "vertical lines Jailhouse bar 'on display and blew the technical support of HP it was time to look a bit' better. First, any HP product ever.
Lenovo was the next thing I wanted. The 10-inch display is more useful than the dim fuzzy 17-inch model on HP.The keyboard is very comfortable for long sessions.
The S10 weighs about 3 pounds. The 3 cell battery handles my needs laptops. For the semi Targus need an AC / DC converter auto, the trick works. The powers of Targus is in the car, where I have a companion S10 GPS with Delorme Street Atlas with USB and navigate.
My main purpose is genealogy. The S10 handles all programs correctly. The Master genealogist requires setting the display more pixels thanand bumping up and down with the cursor.
Scan is a Canon CanoScan LiDE 35 weighs (replaced by LiDE 100), 3.5 pounds and is a bit 'larger than S10. USB powered. It scans photos and documents. He lives in the bag with the S10.
Printing is done with an old Canon BJC-80. E 'small enough to remove if necessary.
Windows XP is a real plus. I was struggling with Vista on my Toshiba laptop new wife. Windows 7 will undoubtedly be worse. XPRules!
Broadband access is through a modem ATT Ultra Express. A USB modem is probably the right way today.
I used the S10 for almost two years. The new smart pounds to replace. The S10 phone and are easy to use.
The S10 and scanners take up less space and weigh less than 17 inches HP alone. Goes everywhere. A true mobile office.
The only improvement that make the best S10 would cost less. It 's alreadya bargain.
Much better than I expected. – D. Davis – Texas
It is a well made laptop – not very fast, but it's really cheap. – It has a ton of hard drive – the keyboard small enought that I put some bad times, but applications to run great with my couch and I put him 2-4 hours a day.
Easily overloooked, great little netbook in a crowded market – Peter Nom De Guerre – New York, NY
First thing first: when it comes to buying a netbook, you have lots of options. Asus, Acer, Lenovo, HP, MSI, Samsung – to name a few – have thrown their hats into play (it seems Apple is the only holdout). So a bit 'confusing for those looking for a $ 300 – $ 400 machine and I do not know where to begin.
The Lenovo S10 is a good choice for several reasons. I begin with the least: aesthetics. E '(above) a well-built smallUnits, and it looks good in black or white (or other funky color combinations around.) Seems solid and substantial, the screen is bright and attractive, and the trackpad, while small, well placed and responsive.
[A small note on the construction quality: the cool looking silver on both sides of the S10 can take only if it undergoes a drop / shock, making it seem much less beautiful than it is. So be careful.]
As for performance, if you go with the default settings, the model of $ 300-400,There will probably get a 1.60 GHz Intel Atom, the fine for word processing, surfing the Internet, a little 'light (emphasis on light) image editing and retouching, management music, and so on. However, I did some video encoding on this thing (insert subtitles and the like), and the boy chug it. I mean, would do the tasks the processor, but it will take time sweet.
A really interesting thing is that the S10 have a piece of RAM (-and cheap ($ 25)) and swap the HD is a breeze. The bottom of the netbook opens easily, and you have instant access to all its delicious innards.
Some questions disturb me, though: The first big mistake with this unit is (1) its shaky wireless card loses signal sometimes for no reason. I have tested every part of my home network (running a D-Link DIR-655 router and a NAS and served two laptops, including this one), and the blame is clearly with the S10 comes standardWireless card. The second is (2) is very hot. The fan turns on, and is a bit 'strong for a small notebook. Do not get me wrong, it is irritating, loud or much stronger, but when you're in a small room and quiet, you hear (and feel when in the womb).
Everything that is said when the market for a low-cost netbooks that have the job done, the Lenovo S10 is a good record as everyone else. Add a stick of RAM, and you can easily bring running dual boot. I played withMSI Wind (and got one for my sister for Christmas) and the Eee (who has a friend), and the S10 feels just a smidge better than both. But in the end is the best, play with and then decide.
Great item – Howard Thomas – GA United States
The first time you bought a Dell 9-inch, and with him back because of Wi-Fi did not work, I am a little bigger screen would be better. I am very happy with the 10-inch netbook Lenovo. I use a computer away from home. Lightweight and ideal for travel.
