Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse Review

Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse
I bought this product about a month ago and so far I have had no problems. The mouse is very elegant. It feels light so if you like something to feel heavy in your hand this may not be the best. At first the mouse is difficult to use. (I have never used a gyroscope mouse before this product). However, after using it for a while I found it fun and easy to use. I only use the gyroscope mode for presentations or when I am watching movies through my laptop. It easily changes from desktop to air and back just by sensing when the mouse is lifted off the desk. The back button is not at the easiest spot to reach but is still nice. Obviously the mouse is pricey. If you are looking for a regular mouse to use on the desktop look into the ‘logitech 1100 Cordless Laser Mouse’ My father has this mouse and it is by far the most comfortable mouse I have ever used. The back button (and forward button) is very conveniently located just above where your thumb rests.

If you do buy this mouse there is a way to ‘freeze’ the courser when using gyroscope mouse for if doing presentations. I instead turn off the mouse it is much easier, faster, and keeps my battery life longer.

Overall I would recommend this mouse to someone else looking for a fun and stylish mouse. Or if you are looking for something to show off to your friends.

Two last notes:
Having a mouse or other wireless devices like keyboards which have a built in battery is very nice rather than buying and replacing AA or AAA batteries. It is much easier to just set it on the charger or plug it in.

Also If you are looking for logitech and plan on getting more than one device, consider getting devices that have ‘Unifying Software’ Especially for laptop users. With this you can have one USB receiver instead of two or more to connect all of your devices. I personally wish I took this into consideration since I am also looking for a wireless keyboard now and my laptop only has three USB ports.

Finally I would recommend logitech as a company because it has proven successful throughout my family. Where we have three wireless mice, one wireless keyboard, and speakers, all are made with good quality and work exactly how they did out of the box. Logitech makes good quality accessories for computer.

Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse Overview

On your desk, advanced laser technology gives you precise tracking and instant response. In the air, innovative Freespace motion sensing transforms hand motions into natural, responsive cursor controls. Sit back and listen to music, browse photos, or surf the Webfrom your desk or across the room.

Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse Specifications

The Logitech MX Air optical mouse tracks motion even after you lift it off the surface, making it great for home theater PC users and presentations. In the air, it works like a cross between a remote control and a wand as you simultaneously wave the mouse in all directions and press its buttons to navigate.

It sounds wieldy to use, but I was able to get the hang of it within a few minutes. Holding the mouse in my palm like a remote control, the cursor ably followed my hand movement but it got a little tricky trying to hone in on smaller icons and button selections. Another issue was I’d often catch myself in an awkward hand position while still needing the cursor to go in a certain direction. But with the freeze button, I could hold the cursor steady and recenter my hand into a more comfortable position.

For desktop use, optical sensitivity was comparable to other mice and picked up subtle movements, however the mouse did not have any side buttons that I am used to for back and forward browsing. The extra buttons (back, volume, play/pause) are placed in the middle of the mouse, which are easily accessible when you hold the mouse in the air, but not so much for desktop use because your palm sits directly over them. The SetPoint software can customize the buttons into functions that you may ordinarily use, such as copy and undo. I was also able to fine tune the cursor and scroll speed for even greater control.

The mouse definitely stands out on your desktop, its sleek black design might fool you into thinking it’s something else, but upon touch the buttons light up to display each function. The shiny plastic casing doesn’t feel cheap, but the smoothed look seems prone to scratches. The mouse also tracked up dirt pretty easily within a few days of use, however a cleaning cloth is provided. The smooth design is conspicuously missing a scroll wheel. That’s because that section of the mouse is a touch panel sensor where you directly slide your finger up and down. It’s a surprisingly comfortable and natural feel, and you start to wonder how you ever got by with wheels.

The rechargeable lithium ion battery typically provided about 20 hours of use. After placing the mouse onto the base charger, it took about two hours to reach a full charge. I was able to get a workable range of about 30 feet from the receiver before the signal went out. Overall, it’s a nifty mouse that shows its stuff in the air, a convenient device for home theater PC’s and couch browsing as well as a more versatile tool than a laser pointer in presentations. –Bradley Tran

AIR MAGIC – Linda Szymanski – Toledo, Ohio
This is a great Mouse! My old Logitech mouse finally bit the dust after years- and miles and miles of use on my desktop. It was rechargeable and to me, this is the ONLY way to go if you are on the computer from dawn to 10 p.m. so I looked for another one to take its place. Strangely a rechargeable mouse is not all that easy to find. The MX AIR was expensive, more than I wanted to spend, but it is sleek, extremely comfortable, holds a charge ALL day and the AIR part of it is great, too- although I do not use it for media presentation, etc. But it works just fine either way. It’s a beautiful piece of equipment!

A great addition to our HTPC setup. – kidicarus –
The MX Air is a great little mouse for a HTPC setup. It does however take a bit of adjustment and there are a few quirks and tricks to learn as well.

Construction wise it’s a solid mouse, just enough heft to aid in aiming and it doesn’t feel cheap and flimsy. The shiny black and chrome accents look great on the coffee table, people always comment on how cool it looks, especially when the buttons are glowing orange. Since it’s glossy it suffers from oil and dirt like an iphone though.

Operation takes some practice as I mentioned. The left/right clickers are extra long to take into account the two different holding styles you need to adopt for air use and on normal mousing. Try holding it back further towards the butt-end to access the quick buttons while in air use, and forward like usual while mousing.

I also like the feedback for the volume feature. Holding the volume button and sweeping left or right will adjust it, and a faint clicking noise let’s you know how fast you are adjusting the volume. Nice touch!

Pro-tip: While air mousing in a movie/video, set the mouse down nose first and then lower the back, this will flick the pointer to the top of the screen every time so that it doesn’t rest on the on-screen-display for the video. I had to constantly pick the mouse back up and adjust so the OSD would vanish before I figured that out.
