Microsoft SideWinder X5 Mouse Review

I needed a mouse for my Macbook Pro and did a bit of research for a durable, large gaming mouse and was instantly drawn to the Sidewinder line. As cool as the features of the X8 were, I wasn’t willing to shell out + for a mouse. I found the X5 for with free economy shipping on Amazon and ordered it instantly.

I find the X5 very comfortable. It’s solid and seems like it will hold up longer than the Razor Diamondback that preceded it. The scroll wheel is nice and wide. The scroll is somewhat rigid. Although I would have preferred a smooth scroll like the Logitech’s, the “knotchy” scroll gets it done. Accidentally pressing the Mouse 3 button (pushing the wheel in) will not happen with this mouse. I have a dual boot machine with Mac OS X/ Windows 7 and it works great on both sides. The packaged software would not install on Window 7, but after further research (AND compatibility mode) I’d like to get it installed. The on-the-fly dpi switch works, but without the software it’s not customizable. The default dpi’s are 2000, 800, and 400 I believe.

All around, this entry level gaming mouse is a steal for what you get. If it doesn’t work for you, then it’s only down the drain. I was actually going to buy the MX518, if the X5 wasn’t going to work out… but fortunately it did

Sidewinder X5 – F22C –
This is a very good mouse. Perfect for all my needs on the computer. I really like the different DPI buttons. I never thought being able to change the sensitivity on the fly would be so useful till I actually had it. I do a lot of work in Adobe Photoshop and being able to adjust the sensitivity all the way down to make the mouse move nice and slow is just amazing. Perfect mouse overal and for the price you really cant go wrong even if its not wireless just means you dont gotta buy batteries.

This is a great product. Comfortable to hold, even with big hands. The included program makes it easy to fine-tune the DPI settings for the mouse and I really love having the ability to change the DPI on fly right on the mouse for use with different applications. The mouse wheel feels sturdy, along with the side mounted buttons. For not being one of the high priced, fancy pants wireless gaming mouses I’m pretty happy with it. Works great for world of warcraft and several versions of Call of Duty. I may even buy another one just to keep handy in case this one ever goes bad.

Great mouse ,the X5 has perfect button placement for my hand ,and it feels more comfortable them my
old mouse. which was too small, and gave me a hand cramp when i used it for long periods of time.
The mouse has worked flawlessly since i bought it . It’s weight is about the same as anyother mouse i,v
used,and in games it’s more precise, When it comes to aiming and movement.

I defendly Recommend to anyone looking for a gaming mouse, that is affordable and has a longlife span.

Also, the two mouse buttons on the side of the mouse are alittle bit foward. So you don’t accidentally
push them ,while moving the mouse around.
