Terrible wind noise, dead camera – John Ferree – Central NC
I have the Sony DCR-SR200 used for two years under travel videos throughout North America, Antarctica, Cuba and Hawaii. My wife and I are birders, so most of my shots are out there. The picture quality is unique in the sun, but it is grainy as the light fades. Even the rule that features auto focus poorly in low light conditions. It is relatively easy to carry and easy to use.
My biggest complaint was the sound quality. Under conditions of perfect soundexcellent for a camera of this type, with good stereo separation and clarity at a distance. If you want to use the camera indoors, you are probably very happy. But if the wind blows across product is a fast, strong and very annoying "rattle" that covered the rest. The noise that is common when shooting from a window of the airplane, the bus and especially helicopters – perhaps produced by vibration of the engine. It 'really ugly and no amount ofpatches, gauze or other material to the microphone tape helped. There is no connection for an external microphone.
Last month I had the camera on Hawaii's Big Island for a couple of weeks ago which included a visit to the summit of Mauna Loa – 13,000 feet above sea level. Shortly after the screen started rolling for a minute after I turned it, but if the treadmill will stop, it worked fine. Now is the continuous rolling and the camera is completely non-functional. For the record, "operatingGuide "warns in particular against the use of the camera above 9,000 feet – though I did not notice until the notice too late. Interestingly, I used the camera several times well over 9,000 feet of the Rockies, with no problem.
I changed all my videos with Adobe Premier Elements on a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows Vista – a long process with several frustrating software problems after reversing the field dominance along the rendering and encoding sessions, and onlyUntil the computer to perform routine processing. But looking over the video (just over 90 minutes, with many titles and transitions and music) is really good.
Sony wants $ 271 to fix the problem. If the sound quality was better known as the strong winds that usually use the camera, I would spend the money, but given its shortcomings, audio, try something else.

Sony HDR XR-200 Hates Mac – Joseph Watters – Killeen, TX, USA
Mac is the preferred video platform on PCs for years, but Sony refuses to Mac support I bought a Sony HDR XR-200 and the software that came with it works only with Windows. Sony can do a work-around, but it is a total pain. I plan to return this camera tomorrow.
