Daybreakers [Blu-ray] Review

A very enjoyable vampire story told in a science fiction setting, which made it much more interesting than it would have been otherwise. The film shows how vampires have adapted to the world they live in and control, and that includes dealing with sunlight.

Of course, you’d think that being a vampire would be much easier than human, especially since vampires control everything. That isn’t the case, all that’s happened is that one set of complications (human ones) has been traded for another (vampire ones), and scarcity continues to promote greed and violence.

The vampires are driven, as is always the case, by their need for blood, nothing new about that, but satisfying that need has taken on some new twists.

I don’t want to include any spoilers in my review, so I’ll sum up by saying that cast played their roles with outstanding restraint, keeping this move from becoming a parody.

An entertaining piece of film in the growing vampire genre.

Daybreakers [Blu-ray] Overview

Two-time Academy Award® nominee Ethan Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, when an unknown plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race.

Scary and creative! – SilentB – NY
I love this movie, I couldn’t leave my tv. The concept of the story is original and creative. It’s one of those movies that leave you wondering after the ending and hope for a sequel. The cast is perfect, I haven’t seen Willem Dafoe or Ethan Hawke for awhile, and they chose to play these roles…perfect and fresh!!! I wish they make more movies like this, scary, twisted and surprising, and about surviving crisis (like 28 days).

I liked it, thought it was fairly original plot. I normally love Willem Dafoe, but his accent was just down right irritating and some of his lines were “cheesetastic”. I feel he deserves a better written part than what he had to work with.

A “scary” vampire movie for vampires Vv—-vV – The Forsaken – deep beneath the earth
This is by far one of the best vampire movies i’ve seen in recent years (Bled, Cravings & Let The Right One In being the others) Some may disagree, but I’ve been watching vampire movies since I was 6 years old.This is basically a “scary” vampire movie FOR vampires by (seems like) vampires! **SPOILER** Imagine the thought of being *gasp* turned back!

If you’re a real vampire, or a real vampire fan (not the bland, dull, glittery ones) then you will appreciate this movie…

Turn on the dark and turn off the scary lights and just watch it through a vampire’s eyes…
