Tears of the Sun [Blu-ray] Review
I saw this movie on T.V. two nights ago. (We don’t get to movies in theatres, my husband has hearing aids and can’t handle the noise!) I’d wanted to see it for some time, because the simple blurb in the T.V. magazine preview indicated something special. It’s unfortunate most people will simply think it’s just another Bruce Willis ‘actioner’. I haven’t read all the reviews but I may be one of the few women to write one. I won’t repeat the details of the script, simply list my own observations.
Story: all important, in both books and movies. This story was played out with clarity and compassion. Certainly it became a little gung-ho at the end, but one could become deeply involved in the action scenes, the portrayals of the members of a small, highly trained military unit, and the simply accepted fact, once unknown in …
End of Days [Blu-ray] Review
Jericho Cane, a beaten down ex-cop, wakes up to another day, oblivious to the struggle that he soon must face. His job as a security specialist alongside his partner Chicago has become a tireless routine of seedy surveillance jobs, and since the death of his wife and child, everything in life which once held any meaning to him is now gone. Following a bizarre confrontation with a crazed homeless man warning him of impending doom, Cane rescues a young woman, Christine York from attackers who have invaded her home. He soon finds himself drawn into a heart stopping game of cat and mouse, as he realizes that she is the key to a supernatural force of terror, born of prophecy long ago foretold. For she is the unwitting object of desire of what deceptively appears to be just a man, but is in fact the ultimate …
Billy Jack [Blu-ray] Review
The original had 3 scenes in it, including the 1st 5 minutes, the famous ice cream store confrontation and also the tearful ending that actually are all that made the picture worth watching. The acting of Tom Laughlin and Dolores were perfect as well. The fact that they are husband and wife in real life make this superb, particularly that they wanted no credit as the directors using the names Frank and Christina. Now that is making a picture to make a statement rather then money! However…..
80% of the picture is wasted on horrible acting by young untrained actresses playing hippies and the shows they put on and the songs they sang were a snore. If a professional director ever got a hold of this film and remade it with professional people, this might become one of the greatest flicks of all time. I applaud …
A Bridge Too Far [Blu-ray] Review
This was an ambitious film that succeeds in its mission of entertaining the viewer, but does not quite make it into the top-tier of war films. Operation Market-Garden was conceived by General Montgomery as an attempt to drive a nail into the coffin of the German Wehrmacht, and take the allies to the Rhine. Instead, the operation failed and remains controversial to this day. James Caan and Sean Connery in particular turn in excellent performances among an all-star cast.
I suppose what deprives this film of its fifth star is the simple fact that (in my opinion) it has a bit too much action and not enough characterization and storyline. There is just a lot of combat in this film, which is, after all to be expected. And the action somewhat swamps the storyline. Nevertheless, this is an excellent …
